“Refreshing” is how American Idol judge Paula Abdul described Rickey Hayes’ rendition of the Bonnie Raitt hit, “I Can’t Make You Love Me,” which he performed during his audition in Austin. Tough-as-nails AI judge Simon Cowell said Hayes “has the nicest voice I’ve heard so far,” and also lauded him for his distinctness as a singer. With a unanimous “yes” from all three judges, Hayes earned a golden ticket to Hollywood, where he made it through five rounds of American Idol's Season Five. A music major at Texas A&M Commerce, Hayes hails from Bedford, Texas. www.myspace.com/rdh0120

Believing that “art is an expression of life,” much of the subject matter of Rolando Diaz’s work comes from his extensive travels and personal experiences. The native Cuban-American artist, who was born in Havana at the dawn of the Communist regime, has traveled throughout the world to capture images for the artwork he uses to raise funds for those less fortunate. A painter since childhood, Diaz received his bachelor's degree in fine art and has exhibited in museums, galleries and private homes, slowly building a solid collector's list that includes clients such as Liza Minnelli and BJ Thomas. Also an accomplished singer, writer and actor, in 2007 Diaz received the distinguished alumni award from Abilene Christian College. A documentary about his return to Cuba is scheduled for release on PBS in 2008.
