AGA- BOOM Performer Bios
Dimitri Bogatirev – CREATOR/DIRECTOR/PERFORMER Dimitri’s background is in professional clowning and pantomime, having studied with the top talents in the former Soviet Union. He has performed around the world in just about every venue of clowning, from solo performances to full evening shows. In 1992, Dimitri was invited to join Cirque Du Soleil’s Alegria. After a very successful five-year tour of America, Asia and Europe, "Cirque" invited Dimitri and Iryna to create and perform their clown act for the new show O. Dimitri invented two unforgettable characters that, according to critics from coast to coast, took Cirque Du Soleil’s clowning in an entirely new direction.
After a successful engagement with O, this ingenious mastermind set his sites on creating a unique new show. AGA-BOOM is the fruit of that labor. The show’s style and artistic aesthetics are very popular with European audiences with whom theatrical clowning is one of the most sought-after forms of family entertainment. Dimitri’s long-held suspicion of American audiences being prime candidates for avant-garde clowning was undeniably confirmed with the success of AGA-BOOM’s first production at the Ivar Theatre in October 2002. Dimitri Bogatirev was born in Odessa, Ukraine, and currently lives in Las Vegas, Nevada, with his clown/partner/wife Iryna and their eight-year old son.
Iryna Ivanytska - INSPIRER/PERFORMER Iryna Ivanytska is best known as the light-hearted, acrobatic half of the outstanding clown duo formerly featured in Cirque du Soleil's O at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. Prior to appearing in O, she toured with Cirque du Soleil's production of Alegria where together with her husband/partner Dimitri they received much critical acclaim for their unique style of clowning.
Iryna graduated from Kiev's College of Variety and Circus Arts, where she mastered a plethora of skills, including clowning, dancing, acrobatics, acting, juggling and singing. After meeting Dimitri, the duo co-created with a children’s TV show. She also worked for some time in Teresa Dourova's renowned Moscow Clown Theater. Iryna also appeared in and hosted various children’s TV shows on Russian television.
Philip Karp-Briggs - PERFORMER Philip Karp-Briggs is a talented multi-dimensional performer. His professional history is captivating. After touring with the Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus’ Blue Unit, Karp- Briggs along with the Disney Organization, entertained the Royal family of the Kingdom of Brunei. Karp-Briggs performed as a clown in Asia in successive years, with shows in Hong Kong’s Ocean Park and Japan’s Korakuen Amusement Park. He has also been the lead circus trainer for Cirque du Monde, a project of Cirque du Soleil, educating homeless youth in Hollywood. Philip holds a theatre degree from Duke University and was educated in Connecticut and England. He did post-graduate study at the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey’s Circus.
